How to Add Volume to Your Hair

Some people are lucky enough to have voluminous hair that looks full and gorgeous naturally. Unfortunately, others aren’t quite as lucky in this department. If your hair isn’t naturally full of volume, don’t worry, there are plenty of ways you can add volume to hair without hours of styling every day. Check out these methods that are easy, inexpensive, and minimally damaging for your hair.

Move Your Part

Changing up your part is a major decision, but it can transform how your hair looks! When you always part your hair the same way, it becomes flatter over time. Flipping your side part to the other side or changing to a middle part will leave your roots looking volumized and healthy! If you don’t like the new part, you can always change it back.

Use Volumizing Products

Dry shampoo and volumizing sprays can be added around your roots to give your hair an instant lift. Your hairstylist can also recommend shampoos, conditioners, and treatments that will work for your hair type specifically to add more volume over time. You may have to try a few different product combinations to find the best match for your hair, but it will be revolutionary once you find the right products! Always stick to salon-grade products to avoid any harmful buildup that will weigh your hair down more.

Perfect the Upside-Down Blow Dry

Flip your head upside down next time your blow-drying. Dry from the roots to the ends and don’t flip your hair back over until you’ve finished. You’ll be left with lifted, beautifully voluminous hair! Drying upside down makes the roots dry away from your scalp, instead of sticking them onto it. The exception to this rule is that you should always dry your bangs right side up first. Drying them upside down will leave you with bangs going up and away from your face!

Gentle Teasing

Teasing has a bad perception in most people’s minds. That’s because you’re probably picturing a fine-toothed comb being aggressively pushed up and down to create large knots and maybe a little volume. This method can certainly be harmful to your hair, and isn’t something we’d recommend. However, gentle teasing can be done using a paddle brush. Lift up one layer of your hair and gently tease your roots with the brush. The effect will be noticeably improved volume, without the pain or damage that comes with the teasing methods you used in high school.
